A West Coast Swing weekend with no competitions

Sol Swing is the end-of-summer weekend of the Oslo West Coast Swing community. No competitions, no pressure. International teachers, a big friendly dance floor, waffles late on Friday night and a Sunday afternoon of dancing and swimming at Aker Brygge. The schedule is designed for high-quality learning and proper rest.

    No competitions

    Nobody is judged here. You come to learn, dance and meet people, and you still get enough sleep.

    One big family

    Same crew as Winter White. Locals and travellers mix from the first evening, and newcomers are asked to dance.

    Dancing in the sun

    Sunday afternoon we move to the pier at Aker Brygge: social dance, a line dance with Tobias and a jump into the fjord.

    Waffles & Soul Train

    Friday night the teachers are introduced Soul Train style. Dress colourful. Waffles are served after 22:30.

I love this event, super friendly and social atmosphere. No competitions but a whole bunch of great teachers means that you can learn a lot and still have time for both social dancing and some sleep. I also like that they connect back to the roots of classic swing dancing.

The staff are awesome and helpful.

Good location in the middle of the city centre. Easy access by public transport, lots of options for sleeping and food close by. Same staff as Winter White, they are awesome and helpful. I got help to buy a pass from a lady that couldn’t participate. Quick, safe and easy. Very thankful.

A great end to summer weekend.

A great end to summer weekend. I participated in 2023 and have since recommended everyone else to participate. The atmosphere is relaxed, the environment inclusive and the hours interesting. This combined with good instructors and talented organizers makes this an event I will be happy to return to. The fact that there are several hotels nearby, and just a short walk to one of Oslo's best coffee shops is a nice bonus.

First time at Sol Swing?

  • You do not need a partner. We rotate in every class.
  • Level 2 and 3 are self-assessed. Level 4 and 5 have a short audition on Friday or Saturday.
  • Not ready for workshops? The Social Pass gets you into all four dance nights.
  • The venue is a 10 minute walk from Oslo Central Station and two partner hotels are around the corner.
  • Come alone, bring a friend or bring the family. Somebody will ask you to dance.
